Evolution of the Dodge Charger

The introduction of the Dodge Charger started back in 1966.
According to Edmunds.com, "The original Charger was handsome from most angles and awkward from some — the roof and deck lid looked overly massive from directly behind. But the body was aerodynamically stable and relatively slick. The Charger was not an instant hit, with Dodge selling just 37,344 examples during the inaugural season — and only 468 of them had the Hemi. But it established a unique presence in the market as a premium muscle machine. "

The 1967 Dodge Charger ("Second Generation") was used in the 1969 TV show "Dukes of Hazzard." The famous "Lee 1" (the charger that jumped over the police cruiser in the first episode) was sold at auction for $121,000 (Autoblog.com).

As time went by and technology advanced, the Dodge Charger played a role in other movies and television shows such as:

 Fast and Furious
The Twilight Zone
Vega$
Smallville
Semi-Pro
Grand Theft Auto
Gone in 60 Seconds
Starsky and Hutch
Mission: Impossible
Emergency!

Jumping forward to the 2014 Dodge Charger, it has gone through a massive makeover since 1966. There are trims such as SE, SXT and SXT Plus which allow a customer to have more freedom in customizing their vehicle. The different trims focus on combined needs and wants.

"The 2014 Dodge Charger SE, SXT and SXT Plus models feature the lightweight, 292 horsepower
3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 aluminum engine for up to 31 mpg highway (with eight-speed transmission). With Rallye, Blacktop or Redline packages, the V-6 adds a cold air induction system generating 300 horsepower and 31 mpg. With the legendary 5.7-liter Hemi V-8, the Dodge Charger R/T, R/T Plus, R/T Road & Track and R/T Max, deliver 370 horsepower and up to 25 mpg on the highway with innovative four-cylinder mode Fuel Saver Technology. The Dodge Charger can be ordered with rear-wheel or all-wheel drive configurations." - Chicago Auto Show
